Pushkar Camel Fair - November 15 to 17

The Pushkar Camel Fair is one of the most colorful events in the Rajasthani festival calendar. From all over Rajasthan, the Rebari tribe, who are traditionally camel herders walk for weeks across the desert to this spot to trade their animals. Pushkar, though primarily a camel fair, also has horses and cattle for sale. Here you will see the colors of Rajasthan - a sartorially vibrant people, folk dance and music, and for a photographer, it is a feast of candid pictures.

The town of Pushkar which is famous for its temple dedicated to Brahma, the creator in the trilogy of Indian Gods, is a fascinating place to visit. The narrow alleys are crowded with shops selling clothes, cafes serving eclectic and international cuisine, and stalls selling religious icons, groceries and utensils. Jostling for space are cows and holy men.

PUSHKAR - THE PEIRCE & LESLIE WAY

When you visit the Pushkar Camel Fair with Peirce & Leslie you are at the fair grounds well before the other tourists arrive and you have the opportunity to see the authentic fair and absorb the local colour and atmosphere. Peirce & Leslie has created a little oasis of luxury at the fair ground. Each tent is air conditioned and has a private sit out. The interiors are fully furnished and have wooden floors. The bathrooms have flush toilets, shower cubicles and a vanity booth with running hot and cold water. During the afternoons you can sit in our library tent and browse through a collection of magazines and books. All meals are served in an air conditioned dining tent.

Each evening there will be a performance of Rajasthani dance during which soft beverages and snacks are served.

Note: As the fair at Pushkar has religious overtones all meals are vegetarian and alcohol is prohibited.
